The A1 Motorway south of Torun is John Sisk & Son’s first civil engineering project in Poland.

It comprises three contiguous contracts which taken together amount to 94 km of new motorway and 75 km of side roads. The contracts commenced in July and August 2010 and are scheduled for completion in April and September 2012. The contracts are traditional FIDIC Red Book, amended to suit local conditions.

The project also includes six major interchanges, 88 bridge structures, six toll plazas and 10 motorway aintenance/service areas. Other notable quantities include 1.85 million tonnes of blacktop, 211,000m3 of oncrete, 26,000 tonnes of rebar and 10,000 tonnes of structural steel.

The contracts are joint ventures between SRB (a 50:50 Sisk Roadbridge company) and two Polish contractors, PBG and Budbaum.
