Within walking distance from bus and train stations and extensive parking on-site, Kennet Shopping offers great shopping, restaurants and night life for residents and visitors to Newbury. John Sisk & Son created a 6000m2 extension to the existing Kennet Shopping Centre.
Sisk delivered five restaurant units facing onto a new mall along with ancillary facilities on the ground floor and a seven screen, 1000 seat VUE cinema on the first floor – greatly extending the active hours and revenue potential of the Centre.
The structure is a steel framed construction, on piled foundations. Major service diversions were carefully managed to allow demolition and foundations to be completed. The envelope is a mixture of rainscreen cladding, curtain walling and a coloured render. The roof is a mixture of flat roofing and lightweight aluminium sheets.
The project is in a tight town centre location and construction was on both sides and below the existing service ramp to the Kennet Centre. Both the ramp and fire escape routes from the existing mall were kept operational at all times.
