Value : €1.1m

Jan 2010 saw the start of the Rathcahill Wind Farm for a new client Scottish & Southern Energy. As civil balance of plant contractors John Sisk & Son designed and built the roads, hardstands and foundations

for 2.5MW GE wind turbines to be installed. The turbines, which are the largest to be installed to date in Ireland, have a hub height of 80m with a rotor diameter of 100m - each blade being 49m

long. The components for each turbine include 3 steel tower sections, 1 hub (25t), 1 nacelle (90t) and 3 blades (10t each). Phase 1 will see the installation of 5 turbines. Our presence on site was divided

into two periods, Civil BOP construction January to March 2010 and role as Project Coordinator from January 2010 to January 2011.

Following completion of the Civil works the site was demobilised and closed down due to the Hen Harrier breeding season which runs from end of March to end of August.
