As part of Centocor Biologics commitment to reducing their carbon footprint, installed a woodchip biomass boiler with a rating of 2.1 MWth. Having already fully constructed the bio-pharma facility John Sisk & Son were appointed to manage the design and construction of this new energy project for the site. This option minimized management time and interface as the client was dealing with familiar and trusted individuals who had delivered competently before.

This installation was fully aligned with Johnson & Johnson’s stated corporate policy to reduce CO2 emissions by 10%, reduce dependence on fossil fuels and reduce energy costs. John Sisk & Son were fully responsible for the design, installation and commissioning of the unit, the first in use on a pharmaceutical site in Ireland. It was designed and built in a 7 month period and uses 5000tons of locally sourced woodchip per year. The benefits it has yielded have been a reduction of CO2 emissions by 3,000 tonnes per year and reduced energy costs by half.
