Whitelee Windfarm

Client : Scottish Power Renewables

Value : Not disclosed

ScottishPower Renewables has awarded a contract to increase generating capacity at Whitelee Windfarm to John Sisk & Son and Roadbridge, working together in joint venture. Whitelee, in East Renfrewshire, is already Europe’s largest onshore windfarm and will increase generating capacity by more than 200MW through the additional 75 turbines that are to be installed. The work includes the construction of access roads, substation and control buildings, and the wind turbine generator bases, which will be fitted with turbines by Alstom. The extra generating capacity will be connected to the National Grid in 2012.

Sisk will be extracting a total of 1 million m3 of rock during the work and the deep peat soil structure on Eaglesham Moor demands both effective engineering and sensitive environmental expertise to deliver the project successfully.
