Sisk completes stylish suite of residential apartments in Weymouth Street
September 2009
John Sisk & Son Ltd has finished work on a unique residential development of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments, ideally located moments away from Oxford Street in London.
10 Weymouth Street, a £7.5m luxury residential development, comprises a total of 29 apartments. The build added 8 new apartments and 4 new penthouses, the 6th Penthouse offers panoramic views of London. The highly distinctive building is dressed in a bespoke brass rainscreen cladding system, which not only makes it stand out visually, but was installed in its raw milled finish so natural patination occurred removing the need to artificially finish the panels.
The development is an extension of a 1960’s building, which started with the demolition of the existing RC frame at 5th floor level and was replaced with the new installation of a rear RC frame and a two storey steel frame to create the new 7 storey structure.
Ken Shuttleworth at Make Architects, responsible for the design of 30 St Mary Axe and City Hall during his time at Foster+Partners, designed the extension as well as the interior.
The internal fit out comprises state of the art finishes, which combines the further use of brass and glass to provide external terraces and projecting ‘pod’ structures from the various faced lines adding extra external space. There has been a refurbishment of the existing 17 apartments and a significant redesign and fit out of the core areas, which includes the reception and lifts.
The cores were extended to the new height of the building and a ground source heat pump system has been integrated within the new services installation, accommodating the new planning conditions for renewable energy sources. Green roofs have capped off this modern development. This building maximises the use of natural light as part of the concept design to all the new build areas.
Many of the apartments are already let as demand is high. Full details can be seen at the 10, Weymouth St website by clicking : here
Mike Higgins, Director Southern Region, Sisk commented:
“Sisk is renowned for delivering innovative solutions to difficult construction challenges and also for its skills in residential apartments, so Weymouth Street was a great project to deliver. Our ongoing relationship with Ridgeford has created this very individual building, which demonstrates credentials way beyond its functional aspects to those of real beauty and environmental excellence.”
