Trio of leisure centre refurbishments for Sisk
October 2009
London Borough selects Sisk for major improvement and extension project.
John Sisk & Son Ltd has been selected to perform major refurbishment and extension works at 3 leisure centres, providing state of the art facilities for residents of the London Borough of Hounslow.
The £15m contract is part of the improvement works the London Borough of Hounslow is undertaking to leisure centres and community halls within the Borough in conjunction with Fusion Lifestyle, who manage the facilities on behalf of the council. The project is being project managed and designed by The Clarkson Alliance.
The 3 projects awarded to Sisk run concurrently at Feltham Airparcs, New Chiswick Pool and Isleworth Recreation Centre, and will take 36 weeks with completion due in late spring. Work will be phased at each leisure centre with Sisk ensuring minimum disruption is caused and that the centres remain open and operational throughout the construction period.
Sisk and Fusion will furnish the leisure centres with high-quality facilities and much needed additional capacity for local residents. Works on all 3 sites include new changing facilities, gyms, studios, crèches, cafes and works to the swimming pools. At Feltham Airparcs, Hanworth Library will be relocated into the centre to create a Leisure Hub, and at Isleworth Recreation Centre a link will be formed between the centre and the library to create another Hub.
Sisk’s experience and skills set working within the constricted requirements of the leisure centres, to a high level of safety, quality, and budget, made it the right partner for the London Borough of Hounslow.
Mike Higgins, Director Southern, Sisk commented:
“This trio of leisure centre wins is great news for Sisk and will give us an opportunity to show our credentials in this industry and working with the local community. Whilst there will be complexities running simultaneous, occupied projects, the project team at Sisk relish finding innovative solutions to challenges and I look forward to delivering this to the people of this London Borough.”
Councillor Becky Stewart, Hounslow’s Executive Member for Leisure, added:
“This refurbishment and extension work is great news for the Borough. Once completed, our leisure services will be brought into the 21st Century, with even more facilities for local people, and we look forward to working with Sisk on these exciting projects.”
