Local Contractor Donates Clothing to Lancaster and District Homeless Action Service Limited (LDHAS)
December 2009
Community initiative for Sisk’s Sustainability week.
Contractor John Sisk & Son Ltd, which has its North West regional office in Manchester, has donated food and items of clothing to local charity Lancaster and District Homeless Action Service Limited (LDHAS).
Employees of Sisk are currently undertaking a company-wide initiative to champion sustainability across everything it does and it will continue this programme to include other areas of community and environmental engagement. Andy Bassett, Senior Contracts Manager, Sisk initially approached LDHAS:
“We met with LDHAS initially with the idea of donating food but found at this time of year they are really short of clothing, particularly good footwear for homeless people. We had such a great response from our office that we are continuing this into next year. We all feel it is a very worthy cause.”
LDHAS is a day centre for roofless and those in housing poverty in the Lancaster area, helping them secure or retain their housing, they provide a food service, shower and laundry facilities funded by the local community and some Trusts.
Islay Watson, Care Centre Manager at LDHAS visited Sisk’s offices on Wednesday 16th December to receive all the clothing that had been donated:
“I’d like to thank Sisk for working in partnership with us and providing this fantastic donation that genuinely does help people in need. As it can get cold this time of year it is lovely to be able to hand out some extra items of clothing, in addition to the other services we provide to people with housing issues in Lancaster.”
Sustainability week has seen Sisk take part in a number of activities across the country including a number of tree planting projects, carbon offsetting schemes and donations to children’s charities.
