High flying Sisk honoured at construction awards ceremony

East of England Construction Training Awards recognise local talent

The East of England Construction Training Awards has selected Eike Schwartlander of John Sisk & Son Ltd (Sisk), one of the largest construction groups in the UK and Ireland, as the “Construction High Flyer of the Year” at their 2009 ceremony.

Julian Armitage, Group Training Manager Sisk, commented: “Eike embodies everything we look for in our staff at Sisk. He thoroughly deserves this award that has come to symbolise a genuine recognition of regional talent and development in our industry.”

Other Sisk staff fared well including Aisling Corridan, who was ‘Highly Commended’ in the Construction Graduate of the Year section, whilst both Suzanne Hussey and Yianni Charalambous were also shortlisted for awards.

The awards are also now in their sixth year and cover a total of 12 separate categories. Prize giving was held at the Radisson SAS Hotel, Stanstead, where businesses in the construction industry overcame stiff competition from hundreds of applicants to lift a coveted award.

Martyn Price, Chairman of the Awards, added: “Our decision to press ahead with the awards this year has been well justified by companies and organisations who have entered and yet again managed to surprise and delight the judging panel with their enthusiasm and willingness to make a difference in construction training.”

The annual ceremony recognises businesses contribution to the development of skills and talent in the construction industry and can be entered by individuals and organisations training and operating within the Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk regions. The event is organised by the East Region Construction Skills Group with backing by the Sector Skills Council Construction Skills.
